A YELLOW weather warning for heavy rain and very strong winds has been issued for Bradford this weekend, as Storm Ciara arrives.

The Met Office has warned heavy rain is likely to bring some disruption to travel during Sunday with some flooding in places. 

Residents can expect: Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely; bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer and spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer.

The heavy wins has also brought warnings, including: Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible; Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties; Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen; Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible; Some roads and bridges may close; Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

Storm Ciara is expected to bring very strong winds and potentially some disruption to travel throughout Sunday.

The rain warning for Yorkshire and Humber is between midnight and 9pm on Sunday. The wind warning will be between midnight and 11.59pm on Sunday.

The Met Office warns of strong winds will be widespread and last throughout much of Sunday. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are likely across many inland areas and around 70 mph in coastal areas.

A spell of heavy rain will also affect many regions for a time, making driving conditions particularly poor.

This spell will affect nationally and areas in Yorkshire & Humber affected by Sunday’s wind and rain will be: West Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, Kingston upon Hull, North East Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and York. The strong winds and heavy rain is set to grip much of the UK on Sunday. 

Storm Ciara is the third named storm of the 2019/20 winter season, and follows Storm Atiyah, which hit on December 8-9, and Storm Brendan, which brought wind and rain to the country on January 13-14.
