AN ambulance ended up on its side after it was involved in an accident with a lorry on a Hampshire motorway.

The collision occurred on the northbound side of the M3 between Junction 8 and Junction 9.

Three crews from Winchester and Eastleigh fire stations were called to the scene.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: "We were called at 11.13am today to a report of a collision involving a lorry and an ambulance between junctions 9 and 8 of the M3 northbound.

"Both lanes are blocked and the road has been closed while officers attend the scene."

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a 999 call at 11.10am with the caller reporting a collision between a lorry and an ambulance on the M3 northbound between junctions 9 and 8, resulting in the ambulance rolling over on to its side.

"We currently have a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and our Hazardous Area Response Team at the scene who have reported that both drivers of the two vehicles are currently being assessed for minor injuries.

"The ambulance was one of ours but was being driven by a member of our fleet maintenance team and was not on active operational duty."
