AN INDIAN style food festival is taking place this weekend in Chandler's Ford.

The "AnandMela" is an annual event where the community gathers to enjoy traditional Indian street food dishes and celebrate the culture behind it.

After being originally set up by volunteers from local community group, "South of England Marathi Pariwar" in 2014, this is the 6th year the event has been running, and the volunteers are expecting more than 400 people to attend on Sunday February 9.

Organiser Dr Manish Chitnis said: “We are excited to welcome all the local community members to this food festival. We have had an overwhelming response in the previous years and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone again for this year’s AnandMela on this Sunday 9th February. Over the past few years, around 400 people attend the festival and enjoy the typical Marathi delicacies. As the previous years have been a roaring success for the food festival, we don't think this year should be any different. Please do join us to enjoy our traditional Marathi Indian cuisine.”

The event is taking place between 12.30pm and 3pm on Sunday February 9 at the Chandler's Ford Methodist Church on Winchester Road.

There will be a selection of food stalls full of authentic home-made Marathi Indian food, as well as lots of games and activities for children to take part in.

While entry costs £1, under 12's and over 60's can attend the family fun day event free of charge.
