CLARET and amber scarves raised, ‘Return of the Mack’ blaring out of the Valley Parade PA system, Stuart McCall was given the hero’s welcome on his return.

It looked like a welcome win was on the cards for City when Lee Novak scored in the 80th minute, but then opponents Grimsby Town’s former Bantam Luke Hendrie broke City hearts with an injury-time equaliser.

Despite the last-gasp disappointment, City fans were just happy to see the club legend back in the dugout.

Here is a selection of City fans’ tweets:

Jake Verity: “Regardless of the result, today felt like our club is on its way back again. Hearing the crowd get going today and watching the players put in some fight in front of a packed Kop with Stuart in the dugout is something that City fans have missed “Onwards and upwards!”

Bcbcfbcfcok: "Big credit to the Grimsby fans who made the atmosphere brilliant. Love a big away following. Draw a fair result as well.”

Tom Ryszkowski tweeted with a picture of the Valley Parade large screen showing an image of Jordan Sinnott, who died last month: “Brilliant tribute to Sinnott today at City, whole stadium on their feet in the 25th minute.”

Calm Bantam: “Reflecting on this weekend and I’m just really happy to have Stuart back. I was in tears listening on the radio when he walked out at VP on Saturday. Football is a beautiful beautiful game.”

Bantam Scout: "Against Grimsby, Bradford City executed 27 tackles. To put that into context, against Oldham the team registered a disappointing five.”

Bantams Heritage: “Only four men – Ces Podd, Ian Cooper, John Hall and Bruce Stowell – have played for Bradford City more times.

“Only three men – Peter O’Rourke, Peter Jackson Snr and Phil Parkinson – have managed Bradford City more times. 689 games in total.

“Today the journey continues. Welcome back Stuart.”

Ben: "Supporters on a high. Stuart in the dugout. Packed away end. Valley Parade rocking. It’s been far too long since we’ve had one of these days, enjoy it.”

Thomas: “Luke Hendrie scoring on Stuart’s first game back is the most Bradford City thing to ever happen to Bradford City.”

City goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell: "Frustrating end to the game but a better performance. Another big one on Tuesday. Unbelievable atmosphere at VP today!!”
