A MAN who was caught more than twice the drink drive limit and assaulted a police officer has been banned from the roads.

Mark Joseph Giles was caught drink driving a Kia Picanto and assaulted a police officer at Park Gate in Hampshire on February 2.

The 44-year-old had 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Appearing at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court, he pleaded guilty to one account of drink driving and one account of assaulting an emergency worker by beating.

Giles, of Chapel Road, Sarisbury Green, Fareham, was disqualified from driving for 24 months and fined £750 for drink driving.

He was discharged conditionally for 18 months and ordered to pay £350 compensation for assaulting an officer.

He was also ordered to pay court costs of £85.
