A HISTORIC sculpture built in 1914 which pays tribute to the engineers who died in the Titanic disaster has been vandalised.
The Titanic Engineer's Memorial, based in East Park, Southampton, was spotted with the graffiti on January 11.
However, it is not known exactly when the vandalism was carried out on the sculpture.
Councillor Satvir Kaur, who is the Cabinet Member for Homes and Culture in the city, has spoke of her outrage at the incident.
She said: "I am saddened by the vandalism to the city's Titanic Engineer's Memorial. Not only have those responsible for this mindless act insulted the memories of the many people from our city that worked on the Titanic and sadly lost their lives, but there is also a financial cost to their actions.
"It is important that we all play our part in protecting it [Southampton]."
