The number of riot police will more than double in a bid to deal with protests and marches within the city, it has emerged.
It was revealed by The Scottish Sun that Deputy Chief Constable Fiona Taylor is preparing a new wave of public order officers for its busiest year yet.
A source told The Scottish Sun that the numbers of specially trained riot officers will increase from 1,000 to 2,400 in the coming months.
It has emerged that the UN's COP26 climate summit in the city will be a focus point for the services.
Ms Taylor’s report said: “To address current and potential future challenges, including the policing demands of COP26, work is ongoing to increase public order capability and capacity within Police Scotland.”
A police source told The Scottish Sun: “The uplift in public order officers is primarily for COP26, but the numbers will also come in useful for the marching season given the rise in disorder.”
The city will host 90,000 people in November during the COP26 including 200 world leaders.
