ROMSEY received a very special visit from Saints legends in aid of a mental health group.

Francis 'Franny' Benali MBE, Lawrie McMenemy and Mark Dennis all visited Cafe Fresh, Market Place, Romsey to show their support to a new men's mental health group named Man Gang.

Created in October 2019, by Andy Bishop, is a group to give men a place to meet and provide mutual support to others who might be struggling with their mental health or just life in general.

A total of 70 people have walked through the door since their launch.

Now, Southampton FC stars have got behind the scheme and went along to a Man Gang group on Friday, February 14.

Mark Dennis said: "I think this is wonderful and such an important group.

"After football I suffered from anxiety and people do not realise they have got it. "People can come along to groups such as this and it is saving lives - don't get me wrong unfortunately we are losing some - but we are saving many many lives."

Founder of the Man Gang, Andy Bishop, said: "It is unbelievable to see how much support we get from armed forces representatives and Romsey Old Cadets who got in touch with us and wanted to support us.

"We are not looking for financial support, we are looking for activities for guys to do.

"But it is great for Franny, Lawrie and Mark to be here and support the group."

The Man Gang meets every Wednesday at 6.30pm for a drop in session to chat to others, or just listen.

It is free to enter and takes place at Cafe Fresh, Market Place, Romsey.
