TWO pupils have been sent home from a Winchester school amid coronavirus fears, after they travelled in a taxi that has had another traveller with a confirmed diagnosis of the virus.
Today the children from Oliver’s Battery Primary School have now been placed into self-isolation for 14 days as a precautionary measure.
In a letter to parents, headteacher Carly Redfern said: “We have been informed this morning that two of our pupils have been in a taxi which has previously had a passenger that is now a confirmed case of coronavirus.
“As the pupils have not had direct contract, they are at a very low risk of contracting the virus. However, as a precautionary measure, the children have been sent home and will be in quarantine for the advised 14 days.”
Mrs Redfern stated that there is a “very low risk to the rest of the school community”.
Parents and carers have been given further information and advised to contact the school office or NHS 111 for support and guidance.
It is unclear if it is linked to the confirmed Hampshire case that Public Health England announced today.
