OVER the decades Southampton’s Chapel district has changed out of all recognition and so, even in December, 1977, when this group of locals gathered together for a reunion it was not surprising that some found themselves lost.
The nostalgic get-together was held in the Buffs Club, Albert Road, in the shadow of then new Itchen Bridge which, according to the Daily Echo of the time, was, in itself, an eye-opener for those at the meeting.
Organiser and master-of-ceremonies for the party was Eddie Sparkes (standing centre) and among the guests was former Southampton mayor Dr Geoffrey Barendt, who once numbered hundreds of Chapel residents among his patients.
