Westquay security guard 'robbed in car park'

A SHOPPING centre security guard has been robbed in a Southampton car park, police say.

Officers say a man, who works as a security guard at Westquay, was attacked in one of the car parks today.

Police say a mobile phone and personal items were stolen in the incident.

The incident is said to have taken place around 1pm on Thursday.

Police initially said the incident took place at the shopping centre's Podium car park, but a spokesperson for Westquay said the incident occurred in the multi-storey car park.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were called just after 1pm today to a report of a robbery in the Westquay car park on Harbour Parade.

"The victim, a security guard at Westquay, received minor injuries and personal items, including a mobile phone, were stolen."

Police are yet to release any further details.

A spokesperson for Westquay, said: “An incident occurred at Westquay this afternoon. Police attended and this is now a matter for the authorities and we are supporting them with their enquiries.

"The safety and security of our shoppers and colleagues is always our top priority.”
