TWO firefighters will greet football fans by rowing outside a football game to reduce stigma around mental health struggles.

Adam Bundle and Stu Vince are set to row at St Mary’s Stadium for the upcoming Southampton FC vs Newcastle United match.

The pair are also offering people mental health first aid training, which has already been experienced by the Saints team.

In an attempt to raise £100,000 in funds for Solent Mind and The Firefighters’ Charity ahead of their Talisker Atlantic Rowing Challenge the duo are competing in this December, they will row from 12.30pm to 3pm during the football game on Saturday March 7.

They will both spend 37 days rowing across 3,000 miles of the ocean from the Canary Islands to Antigua, inspired by their battles with mental health.

This has affected them both during their careers while facing life or death situations and making decisions under pressure.

Adam and Stu said in a statement: “We’re incredibly grateful to Southampton Football Club for allowing us to fundraise at St. Mary’s Stadium, especially with the Southampton v. Newcastle taking place.

“It’s so great to be back at St. Mary’s Stadium having recently conducted a mental health first aider training course with the team there.”

The Southampton firefighters have already raised £50,000 for the two charities.

They added: “We will be holding additional courses in the coming months to all local businesses and will be donating all of the proceeds of the courses into our chosen charities. The dates for these courses can be found on www.mindsmatterarc.com.”
