SIX Saints legends will appear in a special charity event hosted by another ex Southampton great.
1976 FA Cup winning manager Lawrie McMenemy will head up the event in aid of children’s charity The Knights Foundation, organised by its CEO Nicky Banger, the former Saints striker who went down in history on his debut when he bagged a hat trick in a League Cup tie at the Dell against Rochdale in 1990.
They will be joined by another star striker Steve Moran, who scored a memorable injury time winner at Fratton Park in the FA Cup in 1984 among his 99 goals for Saints, and Andy Townsend, the ex Saints midfielder who appeared in two World Cups for the Republic of Ireland.
Also appearing will be Steve Williams, the former captain who played 349 times for Southampton, scoring 27 goals, ex defender Mark Wright, who played in the celebrated England team during the Italia 90 World Cup, and the goalscoring Saints and England midfielder David Armstrong.
The Saints Go Marching On event, which will take place in The Fan Lounge at St Mary’s Stadium on May 22, will include a question and answer session as well as a memorabilia auction.
It will be an evening of nostalgia, which will also include drinks on arrival, a three course meal, a raffle, music and comedy.
The Knights Foundation provide support and gifts to disabled, deprived and seriously ill children and their families.
Former Saints striker Banger is the CEO of The Knights Foundation. He switched commercial management at various football league and conference clubs for charity work after fundraising for his daughter Sophia, who has cerebral palsy.
Tickets are £60 and the dress code is smart casual.
