THIS YEAR'S sold out Eastleigh 10K run has been postponed due to coronavirus fears.

As previously reported, the event was completely sold out and almost 3,000 runners were scheduled to take part on Sunday March 22.

But due to the current coronavirus situation, the Hendy Eastleigh 10K has been postponed to "minimise the risk" that may be caused from large gatherings of people.

A spokesperson said: "You will be aware of the latest situation and advice from the UK Government on the Covid 19 pandemic and the effect this worsening situation is having on the country and our communities including sporting events and activities. We have been following all of the Government's advice that is being updated and revised on a daily basis and is very fast paced.

"We always have the upmost regard for the health and safety of our runners, helpers and marshals together with the residents of Eastleigh who have supported the event in their town for the last 35 years. To this end, we have now taken the difficult but, we believe correct decision, to postpone this year’s Hendy Eastleigh 10k to minimise the risk that may be caused from large gatherings of people which at this event will be from both within and outside the Eastleigh area."

The organisers also explained that this decision was "not an easy decision to take", but the event only postponed and not cancelled.

It is not yet known when the event will take place, but it will be arranged later in the year, when the government advice states that it is safe to do so.
