POLICE are investigating after a man suffered a serious head injury in an assault at a Southampton pub.
Officers were called the The Gardeners' Arms on Newtown Road on Saturday, March 14, to reports of a serious assault.
A 25-year-old man suffered a serious head injury and was rushed to hospital.
A man who knows the victim, and has asked not to be named, told the Daily Echo that the 25-year-old was being treated at Southampton General Hospital.
A 33-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and he was questioned by officers.
The 33-year-old was later released on bail until April 12.
A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: "We are investigating a serious assault following an incident that happened at The Gardener’ Arms pub on Newtown Road in Southampton on Saturday 14 March.
"The incident happened just after 10pm.
"A 25-year-old man from Southampton suffered a serious head injury as a result.
"A 33-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He was questioned by officers and released on bail until April 12.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
