A TECHNICIAN left with no work due to coronavirus has been serenading residents with a feel-good tune while they stay indoors.

James Gardner, 20, took to streets across Warsash, Park Gate, Lee-on-the-Solent, Titchfield and Stubbington to play them Monty Python’s legendary song Always Look On the Bright Side of Life.

He also serenaded his friend Molly Brown, 20, who lives at The Rising Sun pub in Warsash, in celebration of her birthday on Wednesday.

Residents, including elderly ladies, sang their hearts out on their balconies as James drove past blaring the tune in his van over the last two days.

It comes after the government told people to stay at home unless for one daily form of exercise, to help the vulnerable, to buy food and essentials or for essential travel to and from work.

James said: “The events, shows and tours I usually attend for work have totally stopped, as well as for other people in the industry.

“So I acquired two horns and attached one to the roof. I cannot tell you how amazing the reaction was, and I kid you not, there were so many elderly ladies that danced.

“I couldn’t stop smiling and have had so many kind comments from people that are stuck indoors.”

James also arrived in the car park near The Rising Sun pub, Warsash, when friend Molly heard and watched on from her window.

She said: “With everything going on, he is doing the best we can make of the situation.

“He is bringing so much joy to the community in a gloomy atmosphere.

“When he visited and played the happy birthday song, it was one of those moments where you kind of get taken aback.”

Thousands of people on social media have praised James for “brightening their day while in isolation”.

But the freelance technician has since had to stop as he was stopped by police for making a non-essential journey.

James said: “I completely understand and it’s a shame it has had to come to a stop but the amount of people watching over hedges was insane."
