AN artist is auctioning off one of his pieces to thank the NHS staff for their work during the coronavirus crisis.

Andrew Alan Johnson from Thatto Heath paints a lot of florals and landscapes and after hearing of the hard work done by NHS staff across the country, he decided to auction off one of his artworks with the money going to them as a thank you.

The 46-year-old said: "When I saw on TV how much NHS staff and volunteers are doing to help people I started thinking of how I could help them.

"I don't have any money to give, but I have art and I'm happy to auction it off with 95 per cent of funds raised from this auction to be donated directly to The National Emergencies Trust.

"We all need to pull together to do what we can at this time so I chose this piece of poppies as they are a symbol of rebirth and war, and we are fighting a war against this disease, the NHS especially"
