THE sporadic weather claimed a victim as lashing rain washed away hopes of a record profit for Ringwood Carnival.
The soggy day of September 20, 1980, was soaked, keeping spectators away in their thousands.
However, things thankfully remained dry for Ringwood's parade. Both the afternoon and evening processions managed to dodge the showers.
A total of 55 – seven up on the previous year – made the illuminated evening parade a spectacular site.
Not so lucky were the arena events. Twice international circus artist Jacqueline Ricardo staged her trapeze act high above Carvers in a torrential downpour.
And Ringwood Schoolboy Scramble rider Dave Gilbertson hurt his ankle when his bike spun out of control during a wheelie.
