A DOG has been rescued from Southampton water after being reported missing by its owners for days.

The furry pet is believed to have jumped into the water and managed to swim under the quayside at Centenary Quay, Woolston.

Members of Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team and Hamble Lifeboat rushed to the scene at 10.20am this morning.

They found its owners attempting to rescue the dog and then sent two water rescuers from HM Coastguard to bring the dog back to safety.

They recovered the black labrador onto safe ground unharmed.

Nearby resident Tom Driscoll saw the dog being rescued while sitting out on his balcony.

He said: "I was on my balcony and it's not something you usually see while you're working at home.

"From conversations with its owners on the ground, I believe the dog was missing for days and got spooked, so jumped into the water.

"He swam under the quayside and the rescue team tried to grab hold of it - there was a bit of a commotion."

A spokesperson for Hamble Lifeboat said: "We were called at 10.20am to reports of a dog in the water opposite Ocean Village.

"We located the dog which wasn't very accessible, so we got the owner to climb down with a life jacket and they started calling the dog over.

"The dog is now reunited with its owner - who lives in Sholing - and has been fed after being missing for four days."
