A HAMPSHIRE man who bit, strangled and spat at a police officer has pleaded guilty to a host of offences.

Louis Barnes of Fareham bit an officer's face, strangled him and spat at him during the incident at around 8pm on Tuesday.

The attack happened at a flat in South Street, Gosport after police received reports of anti-social behaviour and an assault.

The officer was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital following the attack and is being supported by the police force.

Barnes, 31, of Highlands Road, was charged with the following:

• Assault occasioning actual bodily harm

• Contravening a requirement as to the restriction of movement during an emergency period - contrary to coronavirus regulations

• Common assault

• Using threatening or abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress

He pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Thursday and will be sentenced on May 15.
