THE Book of Mormon is the latest Mayflower show to be rearranged for 2021 due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

Theatre bosses had cancelled or postponed all shows prior to the arrival of the smash hit Broadway musical on Wednesday May 27.

But now they have taken the decision to reschedule the three week run of the celebrated show from the makers of South Park from Wednesday April 14 to Saturday May 1 2021.

All ticket holders will be contacted by the theatre.

The Tony, Olivier and Grammy Award winning show tells the story of a pair of Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that’s a long way from their home in Salt Lake City.

Dubbed God’s favourite musical, it sees the two Mormon missionaries sent to a remote village in Uganda to spread the word of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They find their mission rather difficult, however, as the villagers are a bit more concerned about the various pressing issues they face, including famine, AIDS and oppression.

The Book of Mormon was written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are the creators of the Emmy and Peabody award-winning television show, South Park, now in its 22nd season, and the feature films South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut and Team America: World Police.

Robert Lopez co-created the Broadway musical Avenue Q and co-wrote the songs for Disney’s Frozen and Coco. He is one of only 15 artists to win all four major entertainment awards - Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards.

Since making its world premiere in March 2011 in New York at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, where it won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The Book of Mormon has been performed on three continents and won over 30 international awards. The musical has smashed long standing box office records in New York, London, Melbourne, Sydney and various cities across the U.S.
