SUNBATHERS in Hampshire were treated to an unexpected flypast on Friday afternoon.

This huge A400M Atlas aircraft was photographed by Ringwood resident Gary Owen.

Charles Elder also captured this footage from Broadstone.

The aircraft is based at Brize Norton in Oxfordshire where a spokesman said on Friday morning: "This afternoon, our A400M Atlas aircraft will be operating in the vicinity of Cardiff and Bournemouth, to carry out essential training.

"These are routine flights and not connected with RAF support to the UK's fight against Coronavirus."

The A400M Atlas was introduced to operational service in 2014 and can accommodate up to 116 fully-equipped troops.

It is also capable of transporting vehicles, including Chinook helicopters.
