A FURTHER five people have died from coronavirus in Hampshire hospitals in the past day - a sharp drop on previous figures.

The latest statistics from the NHS have revealed that the total number of deaths in the county has gone up from 349 to 352 in 24 hours.

They cover the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

At UHS, the figure still stands at 97 after no new deaths from Covid-19 were reported.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, has recorded 154 deaths - up by three from the same time yesterday.

A total of 93 people who were diagnosed with the virus have died at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with a rise of two in the last 24 hours.

The trust handles Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Alton Community Hospital.

A total of ten people who tested positive for the virus have died Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, an increase of one in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, another 449 patients have died in hospitals in the UK after contracting coronavirus.

The Department of Health announced the latest increase, with 16,509 people with COVID-19 - the disease caused by coronavirus - now confirmed to have died in hospitals across the four home nations.
