TWO people have been arrested after failing to stop for police and fleeing from their car.

After veering into a layby on the A326 near the Dibden roundabout, two people fled from a black VW Golf.

They had been told by police to stop during the incident which happened at around 5.40pm on Friday.

Officers who searched the car found a stash of cannabis, money and drug paraphernalia.

A 19-year-old woman from Fawley was caught nearby and arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man from Hythe was also later caught and arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified and uninsured.

A police spokesperson said: "A black VW Golf failed to stop for police and then pulled over in a layby on the A326. Two people then left the car.

"Police arrived and recovered a bag containing what is believed to be cannabis along with some drug paraphernalia and cash.

"They arrested a 19-year-old woman from Fawley nearby and then later a 26-year-old man from Hythe.

"The woman has since been released while enquiries continue.

"She was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

"The man was arrested on suspicion of being a disqualified driver. He is still with us at the moment."

The 19-year-old woman has been released on police bail until May 30.

However, the 26-year-old man remains in police custody at the time of writing.
