A WOMAN was rushed to hospital after emergency services were called to an incident on major Basingstoke junction last night.

Footage showed a woman walking in the middle of the road at the junction of Aldermaston and Priestley Road, a resident reported.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called to a concern for welfare on Priestley Road, just after 6pm yesterday (4 May).

"Ambulances were already on scene with a woman in the road. We attended to assist in blocking the road, the issue was resolved and the woman was taken to hospital."

The woman was spotted sitting in the road at approximately 5.55pm, according to the resident.

Glen Marsh, 55, from Netherfield Place, Basingstoke, said it took the resources of two ambulances and three police cars and the best part of half an hour to deal with the incident.

Mr Marsh told the Gazette: "An ambulance intervened after spotting a woman sat in the middle of the road.

"Whilst stood up, she was talking with emergency services, and then sat on the road.

“Emergency services got their aprons on and a second ambulance turned up.

“They appeared to be tending to her and diverted the traffic away from the incident.

“In turn three police cars arrived, and after a period of time she was taken to the verge of the road and eventually taken away by one of the vehicles. In the video, you can see her being restrained.

“When I first saw it happening, I thought there might have been an accident out of sight of me behind the flat, then maybe a domestic incident.

“I saw the ambulance head off in the direction of Sherborne and Aldermaston.”
