IT was a mighty crash as a car collided with a lorry then partly demolished the front of a house in Paget Street, Chapel, Southampton.

The window as well as the front wall of 16 Paget Street, were badly damaged in the accident back in June, 1950.

Neighbours came running out into the street to see what had happened, while upstairs in the house a 74-year-old man who was in bed at the time was startled by the crash.

“The shock and the effort of getting out of bed, which he was forbidden to do, upset my father and I had to send for the doctor,” the pensioner’s daughter told the Daily Echo at the time.
