FOR one Winchester family the VE Day celebrations saw a link across four generations.
For the current three generations there was also a missing fourth, Dr. W.S.Larcombe who served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR) in the Second World War including active duty at RN Sick Quarters at HMS Daedalus. He died in 1992.
James Larcombe and his family got out the photo as part of the street party celebration in Hampton Lane.
Mr Larcombe said: “Residents decorated their front gardens. They stood outside their front doors at 11am and joined with the nation in the two minute silence. Later in the afternoon each household were invited to sample the cakes, buns and biscuits that had been made during the day. It brought the neighbourhood together in a celebration that was utterly joyful.”
