MORE than half of working professionals in Southampton are missing making small talk with colleagues.

Figures released by job board CV Library shows that 76.5 per cent of working people in the city are missing interacting while they are away from the workplace during lockdown.

Many are currently faced without work, have been put on furlough, or are working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

The study surveyed 1,200 professionals and reveals that, when they are able to talk to their colleagues during lockdown, Southampton workers tend to mostly discuss weekends, with the weather, news, workload, family, food and TV closely followed.

A total of 64.7 per cent of workers in Southampton said they have actively avoided a colleague in the past because they did not want to make small talk, despite 58.8 percent saying they don’t find small talk awkward.
