I do not believe that Southampton General Hospital should sell it’s Banksy. Firstly, they shouldn’t need to raise funds for the NHS, as the NHS should be properly resourced, without the need for charity. And secondly, the art is a vivid tribute to NHS and social care staff, not a gift to the hospital.
If the artwork was sold it could disappear from public view, or go abroad. And yes, it could be brought and displayed in a public London gallery, but I believe it should remain here in Southampton.
Banky’s child and nurse superhero should either continue to be displayed at SGH, or it should be given pride of place in the Civic Centre, or the City Art Gallery. It shouldn’t be for sale, and it should remain in our city.
