THIS photo was likely to have been taken in the 1920s and it shows the old power station which used to generate electricity for the Royal Victoria Military Hospital at Netley.
The hospital was demolished in 1966 but what an amazing building it was.
In this picture we see George Adams, who lived in Netley, and worked for 32 years in the hospital’s power station right up to the early 1930s.
The generating plant finally closed in 1932 when the hospital was connected to the main electricity supply in and around Southampton.
