A HAMPSHIRE pensioner died after falling off his bicycle, an inquest opening heard.
John George Thomas Holmes, 81, was rushed to Southampton General Hospital after a member of the public found him on the ground.
According to Dr Mark Walker, Mr Holmes, of Providence Park in Bassett, had sustained "unsurvivable injuries".
It was decided with family members to keep him comfortable.
End of life care began and Mr Holmes died in hospital on May 10.
In a post mortem report, Dr Walker stated the preliminary cause of death as a spinal injury caused by the fall of the bicycle.
Area coroner Rosamund Rhodes-Kemp has adjourned the full inquest to November 17, to be heard in Winchester.
