THE Southampton hotel where she danced on her 18th birthday, the Hampshire cottage where she lived for many years and her final resting place in Winchester are among the locations featured in a new Jane Austen book.

Jane Was Here is a guide to Jane's England, detailing and illustrating the settings of her novels, locations used in TV and film adaptations, her homes and other significant locations in the life of one of the most celebrated authors of all time.

With societies dedicated to her all over the world, Austen's novels including Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice and Emma are considered some of the best of all time.

Interspersed with charming illustrations, Jane was Here is the only comprehensive guide to locations featured in Jane Austen’s novels.

Imagine the secrets of the ballroom of The Dolphin Hotel in Southampton's High Street where Jane lined up with other eligible young women and men, discover the location of the Austen plaques around the city and enjoy a bite to eat or a beer in the Juniper Berry pub, built in the location where Austen lived from 1807 until 1809.

Tread in Jane’s footsteps as you explore her perfectly-preserved cottage in Chawton, where she spent the last eight years of her life from 1809 to 1817; and learn more about her final resting place in Winchester Cathedral.

Whether you want to take it as your guide on a real Austenian pilgrimage of your own, or experience the journey from the comfort of your own living room, this wry toned book will take you on an enchanting adventure through the world of Jane Austen.
