POLICE have re-arrested two people as part of an investigation into the death of a 16-year-old girl.

Officers investigating the death of 16-year-old Louise Smith have today re-arrested a man and woman from Havant.

The 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and the 29-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They remain in custody at this time.

The pair were previously arrested on suspicion of kidnap on May 14 and had been released on bail.

The 16-year-old’s body was found in the Havant Thicket area of Staunton Country Park on May 21.

Louise, from the Leigh Park area, was reported missing on Friday 8 May (VE Day) at around 6.30pm.

Detective Chief Superintendent Scott Mackechnie said: “This is now a murder investigation and our focus is to identify who is responsible. To do this it is crucial that we capture as much information as possible regarding the moments leading up to her death.

“We know that news of her murder will leave the community shocked and upset, but we are turning to you for your help, because information you have could be key in this investigation.”

CCTV footage shows Louise entering Tesco Metro on Greywell Road shortly before 7.30pm on Thursday, May 7.

It was reported to police that she was seen at around midday on VE Day in Somborne Drive.

Police said they are keen to trace Louise’s movements from the Somborne Drive and Greywell Road area, up to the site where she was discovered in Havant Thicket.
