Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a smash on the M6.

The 68-year-old crashed the Hyundai Ioniq into a bridge support at junction 35 while travelling north on the motorway.

It happened at about 5.20pm yesterday (May 26) and resulted in the carriageway closing for more than six hours.

The driver from Hove, East Sussex, had suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Appealing for witnesses is Sergeant Adam Dawson, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations, said: “These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with the driver and his family at this very sad and difficult time.

“We are continuing to appeal for witnesses and would encourage anyone with information, or dashcam footage, to come forward.
