READING the article in Thursday 28th of May Echo regarding the Leisure World redevelopment, I was staggered to read that once again a new site will consist of the same old ingredients: hotels, restaurants, cinema and housing.

While housing will always be a requirement in Southampton, before our present problems with CV 19 hotels and restaurants were finding it very hard going.

Several restaurants in the Westquay centre had been forced to shut down due to the falling attendance levels. Hotels in Southampton reported poor business.

While we still have the Above Bar development on hold, which also is going too consist of restaurants, housing and shopping outlets is it wise to consider a scheme which offers more of the same.

In the timescale suggested we will have the UK suffering its worst financial situation, with a national debt at the level of post second world war levels.

Where are the population going to find the finances to fund all these new outlets food or otherwise.

Unemployment will be at record levels, as has already been publicised, again putting more pressure on individual finances.

We will not have the cruise industry, as they have already admitted it will be many years before that industry is anywhere near the pre virus levels.

The development looks very impressive, but will be of little benefit to the people of Southampton who like the rest of the UK will be financially depleted.
