SIR: I was surprised to read in last week's edition (May 21) Conservative group leader, Cllr. Caroline Horrill, opposing the pause in the Station Approach scheme.
Winchester City Council has paused - not cancelled - this scheme until the position post-Covid is clearer, and I have no doubt a Conservative administration would have done the same in the circumstances.
Cllr Horrill says that the proposed development could provide a positive income generation opportunity - but there is no certainty of that in the new economic climate we face. At the very least we need evidence that there is still a business case for it, or perhaps a scheme on a smaller scale as has been suggested.
To carry on with the current scheme without even a review when the world has completely changed would be financially irresponsible.
