PLANS have been revealed to close off Eastleigh High Street.
With non-essential retailers set to reopen on June 15 plans have been tabled to ensure to town is safe in light of the covid crisis.
Civic chiefs propose to close Market Street and the High Street including a section of Wells Place.
It is in response to government coronavirus advice and aims to encourage shoppers to use the borough's businesses.
The plan to close roads within Eastleigh town centre is reportedly so people can safely queue and to allow enough space for social distancing.
The borough council says this will create a safe trading environment and promote active travel to the town centre when non-essential retailers reopen next week.
The council also says it will provide an opportunity to evaluate the impact of the road closures on town centre businesses and visitor numbers.
Plans will be discussed at 7pm tonight during the Eastleigh Local Area Committee meeting.
