Large crowds gathered on Cobden Bridge in 1956 to see an unfortunate porbeagle shark thought to have weighed many hundreds of pounds.
The creature’s body was hoisted into the air at Dyer’s Boatyard but when it began to decompose it was quickly towed back out to sea.
