PLANS for a new pharmacy in West End have officially been submitted.

In an application submitted to the Eastleigh Borough Council, it has been proposed that a new pharmacy will be constructed next to West End Surgery on Moorgreen Road in West End.

If accepted, a single storey side extension will be constructed next to the existing GP Surgery to provide a new pharmacy and a meeting room, as well as a restructure of the existing car park, landscaping and the cycle and refuge storage area.

This will see a further seven car parking spaces be built, bringing the total up to 36 at the site, while room will be allocated for a further two cycle spaces, bringing the total to eight.

The application will also allow a new common entrance to be formed to provide a joint access to both the GP surgery and the pharmacy.

A statement in the application discussing the benefits of the plans read: "The addition of the pharmacy to the site will promote close co-operation between primary care and pharmacy services which will be to the greater benefit of patients and the wider community.

"This is generally encouraged by NHS England as health hubs, which is a model of primary care that NHSE wish to see adopted across the country."

The application, submitted on June 10, also states that the current consulting rooms within the surgery are significantly smaller than the NHS standard require for the delivery of good patient care.

As a result, remodelling plans are underway to bring the rooms and facilities up to the right standard, while the building is also undergoing an internal refurbishment, for which planning consent was granted earlier this year.

It is not yet known if the plans will be accepted by the Eastleigh Borough Council but the consultation period is scheduled to end on July 14.
