A POLICE investigation has been launched after a cyclist was assaulted in Bishops Waltham.

Officers were called to The Avenue in Bishops Waltham at around 12.12am on Sunday June 21, after receiving reports that a woman had been assaulted.

The victim was cycling with her family after visiting some friends, when an unknown person "jumped out" and assaulted her.

Now officers are appealing to the public to come forward with information that may help with their investigation.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: "This is a message for the residents of Bishops Waltham.

"You may be aware of an incident that occurred on The Avenue at approximately 00.12 Sunday 21st June. Where an unknown person has jumped out and assaulted a female who was cycling with her family after visiting friends.

"We are aware that this has caused some concern in the community and are aware of posts on local social media pages.

"This is an appeal that if you do have any information or maybe CCTV that has captured this, please contact Hampshire Constabulary either via 101 or hampshire.police.uk quoting 44200224647."
