A SOUTHAMPTON road which leads to a petrol station has been closed after a sinkhole was discovered.
Staff from Southern Water are investigating the hole on High Street, outside the Co-op and near the Briton Street junction.
A traffic diversion is expected to remain in place for at least a week to protect the crew's safety.
A statement posted on social media by Southern Water said: "We’re really sorry, as we know it’s likely to cause disruption & delays to your journeys.
"We’re working as quickly and safely as we can and would like to thank everyone affected by our works for your patience and understanding."
High Street in Southampton is closed now from the junction with Bernard Street to the junction of Briton Street in both directions due to emergency sewer repairs.
