LIFEBOAT crews rushed to rescue a boat which almost flipped over in Hampshire.

Members of Yarmouth RNLI were called after the 35-foot yacht turned on its side by the rocks near Hurst Castle, in Milford on Sea on Wednesday.

Two people were on board during the incident, and one witness said a man was being "taken all over the place".

Jon Cook, 54, who was going for a walk with his son, said: "We were walking around Hurst Castle and turned the corner to see a boat on its side by the rocks.

Daily Echo:

"We clambered over to see if they needed a hand, the boat was only four metres off the groynes. There was a brave chap on the front being taken all over the place."

The yacht was caught up in rough conditions with south westerly winds of up to 29 knots at 1.23pm, according to Yarmouth RNLI.

The decision was then made for the RNLI to attach a tow line and attempt to free the vessel that had got caught.

"There was another guy in the back of the boat, and when the RNLI turned up, they yanked it free off the rocks, which made a few big noises," added Jon.

The boat was then taken into Lymington Yacht Haven by Yarmouth RNLI, where she was met by coastguard teams and lifted out to check for damage.

Coxswain Howard Lester, said: "Ensure that weather conditions and tides are taken into careful consideration, along with navigational hazards as part of passage planning before setting sail."

No injuries were reported during the incident.
