A MOTORCYCLIST was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a hit and run incident this morning.

The 22-year-old rider suffered "serious injuries" following a crash on the A31 at around 3.20am.

A Sinnis ZS125 and a Honda Civic collided on the A31 eastbound near Burley Services.

However, the driver of the Honda reportedly fled the scene before a van ploughed into the motorbike.

It flipped over with both vehicles then catching fire. 

They were 100 per cent destroyed, according to Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services.

A police roadblock was put in place while paramedics also attended. 

Meanwhile, the A31 eastbound was closed with motorists urged to take alternative routes.

A crew from Ringwood Fire Station helped by Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service put out the burning vehicles.

The stop message came in at 4.20am and the A31 has since reopened.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.24am with reports of an overturned vehicle on fire on the A31 eastbound, just past Burley Services.

"Initial enquiries indicate a Honda Civic and a motorbike collided on the road before a van subsequently collided with the motorbike.

"The van overturned, and both the van and the motorbike caught fire.

"The Honda did not remain at the scene.

"The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital."
