A FLUFFY friend has been delivering the post, shopping for groceries and putting a smile on the faces of passers-by during lockdown.

Mr T the teddy bear was brought to life with the help of 27-year-old Natalie Harris, who was inspired to dress him up during the pandemic.

After seeing rainbows in neighbour’s windows to support the NHS, Natalie and her family decided to dress up the large bear in their front garden in North Baddesley.

Daily Echo:

They saw several residents drive to their house to get a glimpse of Mr T, so he started to lend a paw to help with the shopping and even dressed up as the postman one time.

Natalie, who is also a ride operator at Paulton’s Park, said she has been raising money for charity with the help of Mr T.

She said: “We saw a lot of people fundraising for the NHS. I think Mind [mental health charity] is one of those smaller charities that people may have overlooked – that still need the help.

“A lot of elderly people I know said it is a really good charity as they feel they need to speak to someone, and they haven’t been allowed out.”

Since April 4, Mr T has been showcasing a different activity on Natalie’s front garden for more than 80 days, from celebrating VE Day to going for a driving lesson.

Today will be his last appearance as Natalie is returning to work and will no longer have time to dress him up.

“It will be sad as we have seen regulars walk past every day. People admitted that they drive by when it rains,” said Natalie.

Daily Echo:

“To be honest, I started it just to see how people would take to it,” said Natalie.

“They have said it makes their day, it’s just the little things. Their worries disappear for a few minutes.

“Some have been saving photos of Mr T and sending them to families across the world.”

Natalie has raised at least £450 for Mind despite having an initial goal of £150.
