WE ARE in total agreement with the writer of the letter about the single lane changes.

We live off Bitterne Road West and we have managed for 35 years with traffic and problems on the dual carriageway.

We have listened to the hum of the queues at peak times and often joined them.

Suddenly we wake up one morning to find that we have to negotiate bus lanes to get out of our road.

It is only the kindest of motorists who will stop to let us out into the single lane.

We as locals living in the area were not consulted or told what was going to happen or why. What an insult.

We are really looking forward to the times when schools and workplaces will be back to normal and the traffic queues will start backing up.

It will be chaos and the air quality in this area will be doubly contaminated. Apart from this there will be noise pollution and the value of our properties here will fall.

Such a wonderful time to look forward to after being locked up for so long.

If this whole thing is only temporary, why have the council installed cameras to catch the unwary traveller and exact monies from them.

This is intended to last and it will not be good living here any more.

Thank you Southampton Labour council for nothing.

I shall be expecting a cut in my council tax for this draconian act.

M Cole
