A MIXED martial arts club in Salisbury is hoping to raise £10,000 after feeling the impact of the coronavirus crisis.

Impact MMA, based in Old Sarum, provides classes in boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts and fitness classes as well as personal training and sports massage, and has been running for more than eight years.

Suzanne Wilson, who is a junior's coach at the club, says the club now finds itself "in a difficult position due to technicalities from isolation."

She said: "Up until December last year, Impact MMA ran as a sole trader.

"As the business was expanding we were in the process of renting a much bigger premises, so we decided to make the club a Limited Company. Obviously as the business was made into a limited company just before Covid-19 struck we were unable to qualify for a Covid business grant as we have no business history on Companies House.

We were about to sign the lease but were interrupted by lockdown so also don’t qualify as we don’t yet pay business rates on a building."

The club say it is "desperate" to opens its training facility when gyms are allowed to reopen, and it is also currently running outdoor classes for members, but this is only temporary.

Suzanne added: "We help so many people in the community, especially being the only dedicated Mixed Martial Arts facility in the city and we won’t go down without a fight".
