FOLLOWING on from the letter I read in the Daily Echo from Richard Matthews, I would like to voice my opinions on the recent roadworks that took place on Bursledon Road.

The works consisted of cycle paths, direction arrows, narrowing/widening of existing pavements/carriageway, pedestrian crossings and traffic light re-phasing.

These works caused massive inconvenience for many many months. The difference they have made is zero.

Nothing they wasted our hard-earned taxes on has made the slightest difference.

I have watched cyclists, pedestrians and motorists doing exactly the same as they did before these so called improvements were made.

It must have cost well over a £1;000,000. For what?

I asked for road calming measures where I live ( speed bumps – a couple of tons of tarmac ) and was told they were unnecessary.

Speeding motorists regularly use this narrow close as a race track and despite concerns raised by residents, we are ignored.

Consultation and opinions as to where and how our money is spent apparently count for nothing anymore.

I sympathise with Mr Richards.

It’s a shame an action group hasn’t been formed and the decision makers bought to task.
