A LOCAL man has bee left fighting for his life after he was stabbed in a park.

Police rushed to East Park in Southampton City Centre at around 6pm on July 16 after a 27-year-old man was stabbed.

The attack has been described as "shocking" by local residents.

The victim was treated by paramedics before being transported to hospital.

His condition is believed to be life threatening and he has been taken to Hospital accompanied by uniformed officers.

One witness, Kacper Stachelski, saw police at the scene on the night of the attack.

He said he had walked past the commotion and noticed an "unusual amount of movement" before noticing the officers and paramedics.

He said: "I saw loads of police and could only guess what had happened.

"There was a gazebo set up near to the back of the cafe garden, and the whole area had been taped off.

"Saw so many police in one spot, we knew it was serious."

Yesterday, the area was still cordoned off by police.

Three officers were positioned around the cordon and a blue gazebo was set up within the taped off area.

Police cars and vans also remained at the scene.

Passers-by told the Daily Echo at the scene that the sight was "shocking".

One man, who was on his way to work, told our reporter: "You think you'd get used to the stabbings around here, but every time it's still as shocking.

"Makes you feel a little bit sick."

A 40-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder at the scene and remains in police custody at this time.

It is believed the attack poses no wider risk to the community.

Detective Inspector Nicola Burton, said: “We’d like to hear from anyone who was in East Park in Southampton between 5pm and 6pm this evening that who may have witnessed the assault or seen anything suspicious to contact police on 101, quoting 44200264388.”
