ESSENTIAL drainage improvements will soon be taking place for two weeks on a busy Hampshire road.

From Monday July 27, two weeks of vital works will be starting on the A334 Botley Road, between B3354 Winchester Street and B2177 Winchester Road.

The works will be undertaken by Hampshire County Council at night between 8pm and 6am , with temporary traffic management in place to protect the workforce carrying out the works, but during daytime and weekend hours, the road will be open as usual.

Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, has reassured residents that work will be done to "minimise disturbance and disruption".

He said: “Looking after Hampshire’s extensive road network is one of our top priorities. Our planned maintenance programme, Operation Resilience, is a long-term strategy designed to ensure Hampshire’s road and bridge network is more resilient to the impact of heavy traffic and weather. The programme sees an additional investment of £10 million each year, using a variety of treatments to extend the life of highway infrastructure while at the same time getting the best value for money. These essential works have been carefully planned, and I would like to reassure local residents that we will do all we can to minimise disturbance and disruption.”

The works were planned to begin on Monday July 20, but due to "unforeseen programme issues", they were delayed for a week.

Details of the works, including any changes to the scheduled dates, such as due to adverse weather, will be clearly signed on yellow sign boards where the work is being carried out.
