A MAN in his 50s has been found critically injuried at a property in Stanmore.

Police were called at just after 1.30pm on Wednesday (July 29) to a report of a disturbance at an address in Drummond Close.

A post on Winchester Police's Facebook page said that the man, who is an occupant of the property, was then taken to hospital. No one else has been reported injured.

Reports on social media say multiple ambulance crews were on scene, along with forensic officers.

The Winchester Police post said: "We understand there maybe some concern about police activity at an address in Winchester today. We want to let you know what happened so we can allay those concerns."

It added: "We want to reassure you that we believe this an isolated incident and that there is no risk to the wider community."

A passerby, who lives on Kings Avenue off of Stanmore Lane, said that they heard sirens at 1.20pm.

They added: "We knew it was serious because of how many sirens there were.

"People have been talking about what happened.

"It's been a real shock to the community."

Another man, who was walking his dogs past Drummond Close earlier this morning, said: "It's horrific if I'm honest. This area is usually so quite, with families and elderly people making up the most of it.

"It's very sad and a shock to see so many emergency services."

He added that he heard sirens "just after lunchtime" yesterday.
